Welcome to the TAFF Jobcentre. Please read this page before accessing the feature with the two links above. It explains how the Jobcentre works, the conditions attached to its use, and has a FAQ section to address some more specific details. If you still have any queries about any part of the Jobcentre please contact:
Introduction
The TAFF Jobcentre enables anyone to post an advert for a position on the production team for an Oxford student theatrical production. It is modelled on the OUDS Jobcentre which caters for all aspects of theatre. The TAFF version is limited to 'production' roles : technicians, designers, producers, production & stage managers - effectively most non-performing posts other than directing and marketing. Also, a significant difference in the operation of the two systems is that you do not have to register or log-in to use the TAFF Jobcentre. It is freely accessible to anyone over the web - you do not have to be a member of TAFF or subscribed to the maillist. You can advertise for applications or for confirmed productions. In order to monitor the use of the service adverts will not appear online immediately, but will first be moderated by a TAFF committee member.
Step by Step guide
Step 1 - On the add job page you first must fill in your personal contact details (which will appear online) and the basic details of the job. All fields are compulsory unless otherwise indicated.
Step 2 - You must associate this job with a production. Every production associated with a job advert is stored in our database, so check in the drop down box if it is already there. If, however, this is the first job post for your production you will need to fill in the production details. The form should be mostly self-explanatory. All fields are compulsory unless otherwise indicated. If the show is at application stage, please select the main venue applied to and the prefered performance slot; you can indicate in the production notes if alternative dates and venues are also being considered.
*NEW FEATURE* If your production is over multiple weeks, e.g. is a club night, you can now choose 'Multi-weeks' in the Week box, and give further details, such as which days and weeks it is on.
Step 3 - Submit your advert. If any of the details are missing you will be prompted to re-enter them, otherwise you will receive an on-screen confirmation message that the job advert has been logged and should appear online shortly.
A TAFF committee member will automatically be alerted to the post and will review the details. If they approve it you will receive a confirmation email to the address you gave. The email contains a link to the online advert - please note that it is your responsibilty to check that the details all appear correctly online. If there are any problems or errors please reply to the email. If the advert is rejected you will receive an email stating why it was not approved.
Important note: although adverts do not appear online until approval, production details are entered into our online database immediately. So if you wish to advertise five jobs on one production, you only need to enter the production details (the author, the venue etc.) once. After that it will appear in the drop down box of productions and you can associate it with future adverts.
What next?
Although the website will filter out some old content, it is your responsibility to delete your job advert when it is no longer valid. The confirmation email sent to you will include the URL you need to visit to delete the advert, along with a unique reference number that guarantees that only you can delete it.
*NEW FEATURE* As well as deleting, you also have the option of editing a job advert details. The instructions will be included in your confirmation email.
Acceptable use
This service is for non-professional student productions only. You cannot advertise for paid posts or offer financial incentives, or list productions where individuals will make profits. The productions should be fundamentally based in Oxford University student drama, whether that be through funding or the majority of participants or some other measure, but can certainly include productions performed elsewhere, such as Edinburgh or the National Student Drama Festival for example.
You must not post any material that could be offensive to other individuals browsing the site, nor seek to use the site for any commericial purpose.
If you have any doubts about whether an advert is suitable please get in touch via the Jobcentre email address above and we will reply as soon as possible.
FAQ
Will I receive spam to my email address if it is listed on the public website?
Very unlikely. There do exist automated scanning programmes that record email addresses from websites for spamming purposes, so all email addresses that appear in the TAFF Jobcentre are disguised in the following way: they encoded and rendered in the browser through a javascript function. For non javascript enabled browsers the addresses are converted to images. This means that with either method the address appears onscreen as normal to a human viewer, but the underlying code cannot easily be identified as an email address by a scanning robot.
How do I give dates for productions out of term time?
In the term selection box you select 'LV' (Long Vacation). We don't record the week number for productions in the vacation - you will see that in the week selection box an option named 'Vac' and you should select this.
What if I need to change a detail on a job advert after it has been approved?
Follow the links on the job details page to remove or edit the listing. You will need the Job Reference Number to edit a job and the Production Reference Number to edit its associated production (please note these are treated as separate entities). These reference numbers will be passed to you in your confirmation email. Anyone who posts a job will be sent the Job Reference Number. Only the person who inititially creates a production will be sent the Production Reference Number. This is because the same production details appear for all jobs associated with that production, so only one person is allowed to edit them.
In case of any difficulties please email and provide specific details about the job and production in question.
Do I need to wait for a job advert to be approved before posting another?
No. You will only have to enter details for a production once, after which it will immediately be available for you to associate with other job adverts. You may post as many job adverts as you wish, for the same or for different productions, and each will be reviewed individually.
What if I receive an error message or one of the Jobcentre pages seems not to display properly?
This feature is completely new and although it has been tested we cannot guarantee that it is 100% operational. So if you encounter any technical problems please email the Jobcentre email address given above and report them. If you could be as specific as possible, saying which page you were using, what you were trying to do and copying in any error messages, then that will help us fix any problems much more quickly.
